“A cookie cutter only works for biscuits! Society must embrace the intersectionality of everybody.”
~ Leo
Leo began his gender transition in 2011. Even though this doesn’t feel that long ago, Leo feels that people’s awareness, attitudes and amount of knowledge has changed in this time. Unfortunately, not all of these have always been progressive. As a person who has a physical disability, Leo explained that he would be lying if he said that his Cerebral Palsy didn’t affect his social and medical transition, as well as how people respond to his intersectionalities.
Leo delivers frank and open talks to students, and corporate employees about his lived experiences, as well as taking part in open discussions. Leo has knowledge regarding the Social Model of Disability. His work as a Lived Experiences Speaker is to give insight into how it actually can be to live as a Trans Man with Cerebral Palsy.
“There is no greater disability in society than the inability to see a person as more."
~ Robert M. Hensel
In a society where we are often expected to “keep up”, it is easy to fall into the trap of detrimental comparison. Our health and fitness, finances and career, relationships and social life. Whilst awareness of the progression and achievements of peers is essential for growth It’s important to remember that ultimately, we follow our own path and time scale.
As an individual with a severe physical disability, Leo lives independently, employing and managing a team of staff. Leo designed and managed the renovations of his home. Traveled the world. He set up and runs his own company, produces a vodcast on YouTube, has appeared on radio and modelled at The Tate!
The objective of his impact talks is to empower not inspire. “No matter your ability or disability, struggles are obstacles, with belief and persistence, we can all achieve.” ~ Leo
